Andre N. Porter’s Expertise Conduct analyses and provide reports and related presentations of information on the Division's scientific programs. Provide scientific input to relevant aspects of the merit review process, including developing solicitations; reading proposals for responsiveness to the solicitation and preliminary grouping of proposals. Attend panel meetings and provide feedback on completeness of panel summaries and/or minutes of the scientific discussion. Provide assistance to program officers and division management in overseeing scientific progress on awards, including working with principal investigators and program officers to collect high quality, scientifically accurate highlights and results. Develop data and report on scientific portfolios for Committees of Visitors and other results-oriented activities. Provide assistance to Division management in enhancing interactions with the scientific community, including interactions with Advisory Committees. Participate in outreach meetings, including activities with schools and interacts with relevant elements of the National Academies.Assisted the Fellowship Team Leader and Program Manager for the Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) and Science To Achieve Results (STAR) Fellowship Programs by providing administrative support and performing Project officer duties. Additional tasks have included the following: • Involved in the Request For Applications (RFA) draft process for the GRO program. Coalesced comments and edits from the document's writing team as well as provided edits to improve the mission of the program which enhanced the pool of applications as well as the peer • Provided conference support for the GRO and Fellowship Programs by staffing exhibition booths during National Conferences. • Co-coordinated two national fellowship conference to provide fellows the opportunity to showcase current research projects and to facilitate networking. Assist the water project officer in managing and formulating reports involving hydraulic fracking, drinking water and microbial contaminate grants. • Developed a report on all Chemical Contaminate Candidate grants funded within the National Center for Environmental Research for the Office of Water. • Co-coordinated a grantee review meeting. • Co-planned and worked to develop a historical Microbial Risk Assessment grant synthesis document. Assisted the senior Science Advisor and Center Director • Was appointed to serve on the Center's Vision statement committee to operate as a representative of the intern/student contractor portion of the organization. Within this capacity helped develop goals and a new mission statement that is used to guide the center in the future. Assisted the Toxicology project officer in developing a data management and synthesis database. • Co-strategized with outside contractors on coding criteria in order to develop a standard framework to be applied to any scientific article for immediate data synthesis. • Served as a biology expert within the strategy and development group.Instructed microbiology and genetics laboratory classes, which included 20-50 students per semester as well as assisted with population genetics and ichthyology where needed. Developed daily lesson plans, prepared media, cultures, and laboratory materials; created quizzes, hand-outs, and laboratory exams to test student's knowledge retention; and proctored all hour exams for the Lecture components of each class. Additionally held one on one tutor sessions for students requiring extra help with class materials.• Served as a co-coordinator in the planning, implementation, and post meeting information collection for the 2009 STAR graduate Fellowship conference. Ensured the timely receipt of abstracts and presentations from Fellows for viewing and evaluation during the Conference. Organized science panels by coordinating with speakers and fellows to help steer their respective Panels. • Developed a survey aimed at determining how well the Fellowship Program achieved its strategic goals and to collect feedback from attendees on their impressions on the effectiveness of the Program. • Assisted project officers in managing new and current fellowship files as well as assisted in collecting and inputting relevant data into the fellowship information inventory to maintain a centralized electronic database. • Contacted and collected close-out materials for current and past project officers in order to terminate fellowship files past their project end date. • Created reports on current and historical fellowship data concerning diversity, locality as well as representation of minority institutions within the program.Attended monthly meetings, took meeting minutes, and performed administrative tasks, such as updating Frequently Asked Question fact sheets, creating surveys to asses the preparedness of Emergency Management Team vehicles, and assisting my superiors however possible.Worked within PECARN (Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network) Responsibilities included managing multiple research projects simultaneously and delegating daily task among interns and supervising their completion and performance on given task. Preformed administrative research duties, such as data entry, HIPAA compliance, patient enrollment and follow up, as well as filing. Collected fluid and tissue samples and processed controls.
